We had a Hungry Caterpillar Party to celebrate my son’s birthday. We themed the food around the book, making a few substitutions along the way to make it a bit healthier, using wholefood ingredients!
On Saturday he ate through one Sausage……I made sausage roles using butter puff pastry and real meat, with some grated zucchini and carrot added to the mix!
On Saturday he ate through one Lollipop……
For lollipops I put grape tomatoes, homegrown basil and bocconcini on sticks.
On Saturday he ate through one slice of Swiss Cheese……
And we shared a yummy cheese platter with crackers made from wholemeal flatbread dried in the oven.
On Saturday he ate through one pickle……
On Saturday we also had cherry pie, cupcakes and salami
- For Cherry Pie I simply put some cherries on butter puff pastry and baked it
- For Cupcakes we had sweet potato, silverbeet and feta muffins. See this recipe
- And I bought a good quality salami made of beef!
On Saturday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake……
This is a refined sugar free banana bread (with some added cocoa to the recipe). Here is the recipe I used.
For Icing I used cream cheese and rice malt syrup (and on another cake I just used whipped cream) and used strawberries and grapes to make the color.
On Sunday he ate through once nice green leaf…
All we did was a simple salad of greens, tomato and avocado.
All the food labels came from here.
Some decorations I made out of things at home (we had caterpillar’s everywhere):
A Caterpillar made out of paper plates!
A caterpillar made out of colored paper
Strung up pictures from the book.
Kids Craft:
The craft table for the kids: Decorate your own egg carton caterpillar and caterpillar coloring in!
A lovely thing too is that all the decorations I made for this party are being given to a friend to recycle at her child’s birthday!
And my no junk food Party Bags! (Which the kids seemed to like!)
Make your own catapillar home-made play-dough, some eyes and pipe-cleaner antennae
